printer sharing problem

Hi, I am trying to share a lexmark e312 laser printer between two macs, but I get an error message in the printer status box saying "unable to get printer status (Forbidden)".

I am running OSX 10.5 on both macs, an iMac and an eMac. The printer is connected to the eMac by USB, and I am trying to print from the iMac via wireless.

Printer sharing is turned on on the eMac , and I have tried with sharing turned on and off on the iMac with the same result. I can see the printer in both macs' system prefs

I can connect from the iMac to my user space on the eMac with no problems.

Are you running a Firewall on the E-Mac?

Not as far as I know.

I'm using a telstra wireless router/cable modem.

Ah yes you are running NAT. So consult you router manual to learn if it allows the port for AFP sharing on the LAN. Here is the Apple article "Well known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.

I know that Satcomer didn't mean AFP - for printer sharing...
You can experiment and try one of the other 4 protocols that OS X allows you to share a printer with.
Try adding the printer using (in Print & Fax after clicking +) IP > IPP, enter the IP address plus the queue name on the serving/hosting Mac. Check the queue name by going to printer list and highlighting and "Show Info."
