Printing Problem

Hello Everybody

I am new to MACOSX.com but a Long time mac user(1985).

Ever since I updated to OS X I have had problems with my printer.

Maybe a little info would be helpful.

I have a G4 450 Dual Processor with 384mb of ram. My printer is a Personal LaserWriter 320. The printer is interfaced to the computer through the AsanteTalk appletalk to ethernet bridge. The bridge is connected to a Belkin 4 port WAN Cable/DSL Router.

My last update was to Jaguar 10.2.4 and since then the printer has been unavailable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated:p

Thanks

Hi BobW

Thanks for the reply.

I deleted the laserwriter from the PrintCenter and then tried to add it again. The problem now is that the LaserWriter is not on the list of printers to add.

Is there anything else I may try?

Stupid troubleshooting questions first:

Is it plugged in, turned on and connected to the computer before going to the print center? Have you checked Apple's OS X driver page to see if it has a driver? Have you checked with the distributor if there are drivers available for Mac OS X?

If you answer yes to all those questions is yes then try GIMP Print. Great program.

Go here to download it.

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3

Make sure you install ESP GhostScript first and then install GIMP.

Turn off the Assante box, wait a few minutes and turn it on and try adding the printer.

I have a very similar setup, It usually has problems after a power loss to building (not too often) what usually works is resetting the Appletalk-Ethernet bridge, but sometimes needs a complete power off then on, of all components, and power on printer LAST, (backwards from the usual, but I think the bridge is used backwards from its intended purpose, so whatever works!!)

Hi Everybody

I got it fixed!!

First I want to thank DeltaMac, kalantna and BobW for their great assistance. Thanks People.

Now to the fix. I started check all my old AppleTalk network cables and found a node that was no longer in use and was not terminated. So I terminated it and Whalla!! It Works.

Once again, Thanks for all the help.
