i have a macbook pro from 2006, my internal cd drive is not working and i'm trying to install factory definitions from an external cd drive. the problem is that when i press c nothing happens only appears an interrogation folder. or sometimes appear the apple symbol and than back again to interrogation folder... Help please!!!!

update: when I unplug the external, turn off the external and then plug and turn on again, appear the apple log and stays like that for 2 minutes and change to a message panic (cpu 0 caller 0x0039bddf): unable to find driver for this platform: ACPI; Than appear a message you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. I'm trying to boot from the external because my internal is broken.

I'm sorry what?
Perhaps I should be clearer. If your DVD drive is broken, then it needs to be replaced. There is nothing that anyone on a Mac fan site can do to change this basic fact.

Let us not forget that your computer is six years old. That is two computer lifetimes. I have only one Mac that is newer than your computer. However, I understand the pitfalls of owning an older machine. If you want to get the most out of your old machine, then replace the broken DVD drive.
