Problem with copy and paste

Can anyone help me with this problem. I started my computer this morning and for some reason I cannot copy or paste. I also cannot copy files by dragging them onto the desktop or other folders. Plus, I lost some fonts.
 
10.5, Mac pro. I also want to add that I cannot move any icons on my desktop or copy anything from an external drive or DVD. I would hate to reformat, so if anybody out there has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks. Tom
 
I've tried just about everything. Apple is researching this problem now, but I will try other suggestions in the meantime.
 
BTW, my name is Tom and I'm new to the forum. I wanted to introduce myself everyone, but forgot to say that in my first post.
 
Open System Preferences->Accounts and make a new test account. Then boot into that account to see if it has the same problems. You can always delete that test account when you are done.
