SOS SOS OSX XOS
All my 3 osx leopard systems exist. no data loss.
also backups on external lacie 500 Gb drive.

But OS leopard will not start.
I get a traffic circle with a diagonal stripe through it when booting.
or i get the usual apple. but no action.

my old g4 quicksilver from 2002 is ok because i tested it with techtool pro 4 under osx panther.
i cannot repair permissions with disk utility.
is this an apple leopard bug?? i do not know for sure.
and i do not think so. apple is very reliable trough all these years

my mains 220volt unfortunately is on the kitchen group.
i live in a house built shortly after world war 2.
so the electricity is not standardised.
I had problems with hot water.
i called an electrician and he changed the old system with fuses.
now i have an up-to-date electrical system.

the problem is with the contents of the invisible .Volumes and permissions.
the permissions for user all are gone.
group has rw permissions.
owner has all necessary permissions.
but the user's permissions are empty. Yes empty.
apple are you listening??

With Unix I know I can solve the problem with chmod and chown and post the solution for macosx.com in the future.

after problems for two weeks with osx leopard and my internet provider. i decided to install panther on a free partition.
now i need an OLD utility to work winth OSX 3.9.
I must see all invisible files in Library and System
so I can restore my user permissions..
i already went to Oldapps.com. no luck.

I AM ASKING FOR HELP TO FIND AN OLD UTILITY TO SEE INVISIBLE FILES
ON MY SCREEN. AN OLD ONYX HAS NO BILL OF CONTENTS.

YOU CAN SEND ME AN OLD UTILITY via transferbigfiles.com.
or give me a link to a download site.
my mail address for this problem is zomblimbi@yahoo.com.

the member of this group who is the first to give me a utility or a link to a
download site will get a bottle of Dutch gin (jenever) from me.

A very good product in your coffee or tea in Winter.
Very good on the rocks and in cocktails

So get up from your lazy chair watching tv series or ML Baseball
and please HELP me (a Beatles song)
thanks in advance.

Everyone here is a VOLUNTEER so take that for what's it is worth.

So you have three Leopard OS X Macs that work with no problem.

So one of the Macs have a problem. Have you tried to boot into Single-User Mode yet and tried to run /sbin/fsck -fy? This is to see if the hard drive went south.

That is great but it doesn't help the one problem.

So this sounds like you are a great candidate for an UPS system on you computers. Old house are nice but the old copper wiring has who knows what chewing on those wires over the years.

Can you right click on said Volume and do a get info and as an Admin of the OS X Extended formatted drive and change the Permissions to what you want?

Like anyone with their own agenda they forget about searching. This site has been going for a while now and plenty "Unix" things have come on it in the past years. See what happens with a search. Plus OS X is certified BSD Unix, you just have to open Terminal and read a blog like MacOSXHints.com to get a taste of using Unix "hacks" to get things done.

You went to an older OS X to work with your ISP? That is just plain weird.

Shouting at us is not nice!

I guess you never heard of the free TinkerTool.
