Programs not installing...

Whenever I mount a DMG and try to copy the contents to my Applications folder, it will start to copy then tell me "The operation could not be completed because an item with the name "XXXXX.XX" already exists." but it is a program I've never used before. It is doing it with anything I try to install. Any ideas?

WHat model Mac do you have and what version of Mac OS X is it running? I remember having problems with DMG images on my father's Power Mac G5 where it wouldn't mount at all after I updated it to 10.3.9 from an earlier version of 10.3. Eventually I found out that the Power Mac G5 needed a firmware update before I upgraded it to 10.3.9. Once I applied the firmware update the DMG files started working as expected.

Let us know the specifics of your Mac and OS X version and we'll be to pinpoint the problem from there. :)

Can you post which OS X version you have installed?

How did you fix your previous 'blue screen' issue?
This problem might be related to a permissions issue, so have you tried repairing your Disk Permissions?

I'm using 10.4.8, as far as the earlier problem, I'm pretty sure it was a bad stick of RAM.

The problem isn't that the .DMG doesn't mount, only that an item already exists.

What is the name of the program you're trying to install from the DMG?

I know. I was just giving an example of a situation I encountered that was repaired by a firmware upgrade. I just thought that maybe the original poster's Mac would be better off with a firmware upgrade available on Apple's site if it needed it.
