Proper Format for 750GB

How can I format a 750 GB external Hard Drive so it will read and write in both OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Windows 7? THanks

Three ways:

1. Use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and format for FAT32.

2. Use Disk Utility again and format it for Mac OS Extended. Then on your Windows machine use a program that will make Windows read/write (just like NTFS) Mac OS Extended formatted called MacDrive.

3. Formate the drive NTFS and on your OS X machine use the program NTFS-3G (10.5.x only for right now, Lion compatibly still yet to be released).

Be aware that the FAT32 format, while the "easiest" to get cross-platform compatibility, has a hard file size limit of 4GB -- meaning you cannot store a file on that hard drive that is larger than 4GB in size (movies, archives, and other media-type files may be this large).
