Protecting my folders.

you can create a disk image that is password protected
 
The best way is to create a disk image. You will need the Disk Utility application that you find in the Utilities folder.

Do you know the size of the folder you need to protect ?
 
Hmm well, what I was planing on doing is taking things in and out of it all the time. Um ok so anyway, right now it's at the size of 672.8 MB
 
If you need it to be able to grow, make it large, but still small than your disk and choose a sparse disk... here is how you do it.
1) start Disk Utility
2) Image -> New -> Blank Image...
3) Choose a name (like Protected1)
4) Choose a location (can be on Desktop)
5) Choose a size (I like custom 10 GB, but choose what you want)
6) Choose encryption (of course !!!)
7) Choose format (sparse disk image if you want to occupy just enough place on the HD)
8) Click create
you will be asked for a password...
you now have a protected folder that needs your password to load.
 
Ok thank you Chevy. I'll try it now...Ok, so now I got that made. How can I lock it so that no one else to can mess with it while it's not in use?
 
It's password-protected. To use it, you simply double-click the image and enter your password. A virtual disk will mount on your desktop, allowing you to copy to and read from the image. When you're done, simply eject that mounted image by highlighting it and pressing Command-E or dragging it to the trash (make sure you're dragging the mounted image, not the disk image itself!)

Others can do the same, but without the password, it's useless to them.
 
And don't have the computer remember the password for you if you share your account !!!!!
