put file in folder at root level ?

I have this matrix mod for the Max Payne game, and to install it, they say you must put the file into the root level of the Max Payne folder. Is there an easy way to do this? I know pretty much nothing about using the terminal, but I know I could really screw up my computer if I do something wrong. Thanks for any instructions or advice.

Am I missing something here? If you double-click the Max Payne folder, what appears, is the root level of that folder. that's where the file goes. You don't need the terminal just to copy a file to the folder.

ah, oops. I just figured I was missing something, because I tried just puting the file in the folder, but I couldn't get the mod to work, so I assumed I was doing it wrong.
