Question about formatting USB 2.0 flash drive

Hi! In this thread, I asked a question about a problem I had transferring data from an iMac running OS 9.2 to a Mac mini running Tiger 10.4.5.

I have a different question about this. Does it matter if I format the USB drive in the iMac or the Mac mini? I think right now the drive is formatted as FAT16 and I'm thinking that caused the problem I described in that other thread.

Should I format the drive on the iMac if we're gonna transfer files using it from the iMac to the Mac mini or does it really matter?

Thanks!

Peace...

do it on the mac mini. Stick with fat32 - i think its backwards compatible with 16 and its the norm for flash drives, should work everywhere.

Fat32 is not backwards with FAT16. Although they both work find with OS X you may have problems with older systems and embedded devices. For instance you digital camera might not read it.
