Question about VGA/DVI/ADC adapters

I just bought a new 19" LCD flatscreen, but I'm getting a lot of ghosting from my windows and text which stretches the length of the screen in both directions.

The monitor came with both a DVI port and a VGA port, whereas my Mac G4 has a VGI and an ADC port. So right now I'm connected through the VGA port, and I'm guessing that's what's causing the ghosting.

I'm wondering, then, if I'd be better off with an adapter that connects a DVI cable to my Mac's VGA port, or one that connects the DVI cable to the Mac's ADC port. If either will work, then I'll probably opt for whichever is cheaper.

By the way, I'm now getting my sound through the new monitor, and I'd like to go back to the speaker on my G4, which sounds far better. Hopefully someone can address that issue as well.

I can help you with the audio - just disconnect the audio cable that you have plugged in to your computer. There should be only two cables attached to your display: One for power, and the other for the video. The small single pin connector is for audio, so just disconnect that one.
Converting VGA to DVI
or
Converting ADC to DVI

ADC to DVI is far cheaper, around $40, compared to $200 or more to convert VGA to DVI.
First, you should try a different VGA cable, or try your new monitor on a different Mac, or even on a PC, to check that the display is working properly.

First of all, VGA should work well, so check your cables and monitor. However, DVI will have a better signal.

Converting VGA to DVI is analog-digital, so it's not easy - you need some hardware, costing ~ $80 (USD) (?). Even with this, you'd still be getting your analog signal unconverted to digital. You can get an ADC - DVI adapter, which would keep the signal digital, but that would also be expensive. A better solution would be to get a cheap graphics card from a mac reseller like OWC, which has a DVI port. It will cost the same, maybe less, and you'll get a new graphics card.

edit: I was thinking DVI - ADC, ADC - DVI is much cheaper.
