Quicktime wont show video

Ok, heres the deal. I've recently noticed for some reason I can't explain Quicktime just refuses to show the video portion of movies. Audio works fine, aswell as playing it in VLC, iTunes, and the info bar in Finder. It just won't play in Quicktime. I've reinstalled Quicktime several times and it will work fine for a couple of days then breaks again. Also there is a small glitch that doesn't deserve a new thread. When I click on the close window button or tab button and just miss it, like click within a couple pixels of it, I have to click somewhere else and then click it again to close.

Just found out myself...thanx for the reply.
i had to download a plugin for quicktime (Xvid_Codec 1.0)...everything is working fine as far as i can see. very strange, but it does. i thought that the player just doesn't play if a plugin is missing but finder and QT have been crashed all the time playing avi files. would be still nice to find an explanation :-)...

QuickTime is an "expandable" video player that plugins have been made as freeware, shareware or commercial. QuickTime comes just as default from a fresh install.

Now QuickTime is throughout OS X. So QuickTime plugins can cause wackiness at OS X upgrade times So remember what QuickTime plugins you have installed over time. There was the famous case of a DivX QuickTime plugin during the recent upgrade to Leopard cause the initial install for Leopard to kernel panic or not boot at all. This is why some people came up with Perian to play DiVX files because it is just one plugin as DiVX installed files all over the guts of OS X.

Lastly everyone one knows Microsoft went totally committed to DRM. So no one outside Vista or XPS2 can play WMV10+ DRM laden files. There is no getting around that.
