receipts?

I noticed this morning when searching my HD that I have 18MB in my 'Receipts' file in the main Library folder.
Most are installer or uninstaller pkgs.

Do I need these for anything?
Can they be deleted?

Software Update uses them to determine what updates you need, along with some other apps.
 
Just to add specifically to bobw's post, I wouldn't delete them.

It's only 18 megs, I'm sure you can safely spare it ;)
