"Recovered files" folder in trash after restart

I found a "recovered files" folder in the trash after a "normal" restart.
Reminds me of the Mac OS 9 item that would happen after a "forced" restart.

it has an Excel logo but Excel was not open when I restarted and I had emptied the trash 20 or so minutes earlier...

Any clues to what happened or what it is?

It's not just you. It's a bug in Tiger (most everyone has this problem). We are all waiting for Apple to fix it. Look on the bright side, now you know data rarely actually leaves your computer. So Secure delete should be you friend.

I also have noticed the recovered file is actually the last thing you have downloaded.
