Removing OSX System fonts

Because I’ve had a lot of font conflicts in Os X 10.3, using Suitcase, I’ve removed all my fonts in the different libraries in OS X.
All have been removed except for the Helvetica.dfont and the LucidaGrande.dfont. This result in a nice font overview in suitcase and less font conflicts. I’ve been working now this way for about 2 months without difficulties, system- or application crashes.
Everywhere I read not to alter the fonts in the System/library/fonts folder, but everything appears to be running only with the Helvetica.dfont and the LucidaGrande.dfont.
Is there anyone who has the same, or other, experience with removing the library fonts in OSX?

I've removed the fonts in all the fonts folders you can find in OSX except for the helvetica & lucidagrande in the folder system/library/fonts

My experience was not the same. Actually it was not my experience but that of a user that I support. After he pulled all the fonts we wound up doing an archive install to get him back up and running again.

Would you try to open terminal just for giggles? That was one of the apps that dies when you muck with the system fonts if I remember correctly ;-)

I've tried every application that's installed with OSX, and all run!

Notice, don't remove all the fonts, remove all exept helvetica & lucidagrande

What font is terminal using? Neither of those you mention are fixed width which terminal requires. Or maybe it does work and is just ugly...
