Removing widgets

Bob, there is a manage widgets dialog on the widget bar, press + button and uncheck widgets you don't want showing.

If you'd just like to deactivate a certain widget without opening the Widget Manager widget or bar, then hold down the option key and you'll see that each widget now has an "X" with a circle in the upper-left. Click that and the widget will close.

Awesome! I didn't know about that. On my dashboard, however, it seems the X only appears on the widget my mouse is currently over.
 
You could also remove the Widgets you don't want from here

Library/Widgets

or

User/Library/Widgets
