I have been into the Genius bar with this one and went over a week without a kernal panic, thinking it was done. But two today tell me there is still a problem. Here is the spec n the machine:
Model Name: PowerBook G4 17"
Model Identifier: PowerBook5,1
Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Processor Speed: 1 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.6.2f1
We did an Archive & Install twice and ran tech tools on it for a whole weekend.
In the log file there was one entry that changed from the few that the Genius picked up on at the store. There when it crashed there was a recurring mention of the Airport card, so it was replaced. There was also at least one mention of the nVidea card, but that would entail a motherboard replacement that I did not want to pay for. Both times today this was in the log:
AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController(2.1f17)
Seeing that, this is the Bluetooth info from the Profiler:
Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 2.1.0f17
Hardware Settings:
Stephens Computer:
Address: 00-0a-95-31-43-1b
Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio
Firmware Version: 1.526 (1.526)
Bluetooth Power: On
Discoverable: Yes
HCI Version: 1 ($1)
HCI Revision: 526 ($20e)
One other decision by the Genius was to remove the 512 of third-party RAM in the machine, thinking that it may have been the problem, and in the process bringing it down to 512 MB. He also defragged the HD and rebuilt the directory, both badly needed after 5 1/2 years of use.
Any ideas on what could be causing the kernal panic? Do you need any more information?
