report crash process issue

I screwed up! I canceled a Mac software update in process, and upon rebooting I seem to have created a new problem. My system is running much slower, and the Report Crash process keeps terminating and restarting (when looking at the Activity Monitor), sometimes taking as much as 97% of the CPU. I have quit the process (and force quit) but it instantly restarts. What can I do?

OK. Don't do this again (oh man I sound like my Mother).

Maybe if you go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and delete the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist . Then restart and hopefully this will fix it.

I can't get to it, tried in Spotlight. All my desktop icons are missing. There seems to be a problem with Finder. I tried a Combo Update 10.5.2, but not sure if it loaded (it said verifying and finishing, upon opening but quickly disappeared). ReportCrash just keeps relaunching continuously.

Boot from your Install Disc (press C at startup) and run Disc Utilities to repair your HD. Cancelling Software Update can result in an Unbootable System. Fingers X'd for you.
