Safari crashing after quicktime reinstall

I have reinstalled Quicktime 6.5.2 after having many problems with 7.1 but now Safari 1.3.2 keeps crashing.

I am running OS 10.3.9.

Has this reinstall done this?

I went into users and deleted safari.plist and rebooted but no luck.

Any help would be great.

Try this, go to Users/youraccount/Library/Caches and delete Safari.
Remove the Safari icon from your Dock if there.
Log out and log in, or restart

Another suggestion is to re-run Software Updater....

Thanks for that but no luck.

Still does it. In particular when trying to download mp3s which gives me the impression it might be a quicktime fault

From the first and second post of redarnet, it appears that 'Safari' can be launched (opened, run) and used to surf the internet. However, it intermittently may crash.

The downloading of files, including '.mp3', is strictly a 'Safari' function; and, are not related to 'QuickTime' in any way. The playing of some website based files - '.mp3', '.mov', '.wav', etc. are dependent on 'QuickTime'.

Inside the '/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/' folder there should be a 'QuickTime Plugin.plugin' (version 6.x) file (due to the back-installation of 'Quicktime 6.5.2').

If a 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' (version 7.x) also exists - move it to your 'Desktop', and reboot (restart) your Mac. Try 'Safari', doing what you normally do. Any more crashes? If not - trash the 'Desktop' based 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' file.

Post your results.

This situation could be fixed by removing the following file: Go to your user folder (or your home folder), then to the Library/Preferences folder, and find the file named com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Drag that to the trash, and then try Safari.

Barhar,
Thanks. I cant find the version 7 plugin but I have the 6.5 version and a quicktime webplugin but doesnt say verion 7

Open the Application /Applications/Utilties/Console and look at the "Crash Log" . It is in plain English and it will tell you what is causing the crash. Then launch Safari (while the Console's "crash log is still running) and try to recreate the crash. Then immediately look in the "Crash Log" for the reason for the crash.
