i installed recent updates to safari and now my computer will not launch safari, it always gives a message about not being able to recognize it and provides a dialogue box to send message to apple. of course no results there. can someone help me out? can i reset the system to a previous date? i have emptied cache etc and nothing works. really need to keep my bookmarks so can i reload safari from disks provided with computer and not lose my bookmarks? or is there another way? thanks to anyone who can help.

First don't panic! Then quit Safari if it is running. Then check to see if you have and third party plugins for Safari because in the past third party plugins always seem to go bad. If you have no plugins then go to /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and delete the files: com.apple.Safari.plist & com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist . Then start Safari to see if any of this helps.
