Safari/Firefox problems

When I use my laptop in the office it’s attached to a network.

When I use it at home, it’s attached to my home network. So far no problems.

However, when I’m out of the office it seems to take about 2 minutes for it to think about my password. Then, it usually asks me for it again saying that it was wrong the first time round. This happens a lot of the time.

Now, although I’m connected to the network at home, neither Safari or Firefox will work.

I’m connected to the network because I can make and receive calls
on skype.

It's been suggested that I re-install the OS.

Any suggestions?

Stephen

At work, is your laptop set up in some kind of network authentication environment, like Active Directory (Windows server, typically) or Open Directory (Mac OS X server, typically)? Do you authenticate against a user account stored on a server somewhere?
