safari & runners world

cfleck

tired
so i like to frequent the runners world web site. go ahead, use safari and check it out...

runners world

does it load for you? it doesnt for me. it redirects to msn.runner....... something something and keeps reloading. this doesnt happen in other browsers i've used (IE, firefox). Nor does it redirect in these other browsers.

the second part is that i can actually go to a runners world article if i know the address...

some article

go figure.

the question(s). i assume this is broke for all safari users, but can't test it. is it broke for you?

does anyone know why it does this?

The article loads fine, but the homepage exhibits the same symptoms you describe -- auto-redirect to msn.runnersworld.com:0 and a constant reload over and over again in Safari.

Both links load just fine in Mozilla, Netscape, FireFox and IE.

I would suggest submitting this to Apple's bug site.

Both links work as they should for me in both Safari and Firefox. No redirects, no auto reloads.

Hmmm... did you go directly to "http://www.runnersworld.com" when you took that screenshot, or did you load the second link posted in the first message, then click on the "runnersworld.com" logo to return to the home page?

For many of us here, going to http://www.runnersworld.com directly with Safari causes an infinite redirect loop to "http://msn.runnersworld.com:0/"

(Hehe... btw, you may wanna PhotoShop out that "Warez" category you've got in your bookmark bar! I don't know if I'd want to be advertising that! ;) )

Safari works fine if you disable JavaScript, so that means they have a bug in their JavaScritpt code. They problably do some sort of browser detect, but don't properly detect for Safari.

This is not a bug that should be submitted to Apple... They can't do anything to fix the runnersworld.com code... Instead send feedback to runnersworld.

While you are at it rant because their site sets a billion advertisment cookies...

Safari went to the first link for me with no problems, with Java and JavaScript enabled.

Now, today, I get the MSN.

I just updated to 10.3.5

Tommy: that was directed to bobw. Before he edited his post, he wasn't specific about whether it was java or javascript.

At any rate, bobw, try turning off javascript and see if it works. It should... something with some dodgy javascript somewhere on that page that causes Safari to go nuts.

BTW, funny Runners World story...

Aparently the guy who lived in our house before us subscribed to Runners World, but never gave them a forwarding address when he moved... They have continued to send subscription renewal notices for 7+ years now.

The funny thing is that they've somehow co-mingled our names. So assume his name was John Doe and I'm Joe Schmoe. The mail now comes addressed to John Schmoe. (Some database de-duping mistake no doubt.)

Very weird... especially since I've never replied to any of this mail...
