I have had my macbook for just 6 months....at the beginning it was perfect with a very good battery life.

Now at 99% charge (as it refuses to finish charge to 100%) It now says 10:00 where the battery time is and last less than 30mins.

Also its charge capacity is JUST 708 !!!!
It was over 4000 just 6 months ago.

Im sure my battery is on its last legs, anybody know if I am entitled to a free one?

Apple would be your best bet to find this answer.

Your computer (and hence, the battery) are still under the 1 year warranty offered on all new (and Apple-refurbished) Apple computers. Contact Apple (or simply make an appointment at your local Apple Store) and explain the situation to them. 6 months is an awfully short time for a battery to last, even under heavy daily use.

Did you buy your MacBook new, or was it used?
If used, you do know approximately how old it actually is?
Less than 1 year from NEW - you should be able to get some satisfaction from Apple.

it was brand new, bought online from apple.

its now six months old with just 17% battery capacity left. Pretty shocking to be honest considering how much I paid for it. The reviews on the replacement batteries on the apple website aren't entirely reassuring either.

The underscore button has also fallen off......i dont even use the laptop much!

Take to an Apple service shop. Six months old, you should be due a warranty replacement.
A brand new MacBook battery should be over 5400 MAh. If yours was only 4000 when new, then it was already a long ways from good.
