Saving a Mail item to a folder-no show!

When I save a file out of Mail to a local folder, it's not showing anymore! I make a new folder, save files to it out of Mail, and when I view the folder contents in the finder, it's not showing any files! HELP!

This is a process I use CONSTANTLY because I do a newspaper and that's how I save the submitted articles. HELP! HELP!

It's the same whether I save the mail as Rich text or Plain text. If I save as raw email, it saves it, but when I do a search, it only finds the file in Mail and not in that folder????
 
When you open up the folder look at the finder border at the top of the folder and push in the different buttons to choose the way you want to view the folder. Plus when you save a files do a Save-As and then immediately click the arrow button to the right of the name window to expand the Save Window to choose the folder to save to, instead of the default save point.
