Just the other day I said to a coworker "The reason I love Google is because it does EVERYTHING".

... Well today someone just pointed out something Google does that I find quite scary.

They have implemented a combination reverse directory and searchable white pages. Type your full phone number in and it will show your HOME ADDRESS!!! If you know only someones name and their state, that's all you need to know. (I've even found some of you who use your real names here.)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=John+Doe,+CA

Just to see how much it could do I found almost everone in my family, plus some folks I barely know.

Here are the details about the search criteria: http://www.google.com/help/features.html#wp

I just found a person in Michigan whose just like me with the same name but it's not me......and I never knew there was another person with my first and second name since my name is kinda uncommon.....weirdness.

I wonder if they bought out four11.com they used to be the place for skip tracing ;)

Well ... I have used google (and years ago altavita) to search for phone numbers and with success.

I wonder if you can find any of my phone numbers with google? :D I had 6 of which 5 are lost .. and of which none are registered to me. And of which none should be published anywhere in web. So .. probably finding only some Wired articles and photographic publishings, nothing more.

I've been doing that on whitepages.com. it's no big deal. This is just a little easier, seeing as how you can do it in Safari's google menu.

The scary thing is I t only took 4 clicks of my mouse to get from my address on google to this aerial photo of my neighborhood:

I don't what you find amusing by this. Unless you hold something against Americans.

Don't worry. If an American (I'm not sure about other countries laws) decides they don't want their phone number publish in a/the phonebook, then it will not appear. Once they agree for it to be published they should expect something like this in the information age.

By the way, you can (maybe not now though) also get Death Certificates in Google searches.

Satcomer, what I find amusing is that it works only if you can be identified by state. It won't work for non-federal regimes. And this I find funny :D

Nothing to do with being against Americans or anything. I just tried myself and a bunch of friends, apart from my Ame. friends, none showed up, because I had no state to give.

if you click on the mapquest maps link next to the results listing of the person, and then on the Aerial photo tab of the map, it takes you right to a sat photo.
