i've just noticed that the number of the items showed by "search" tool on finder is limited to 510 on panther

is there a way to disable this limit?

No limit here. At the time I post this, I performed a search for "a" using the search tool in the finder, and am at 15,275 results and counting.

i've just tried for "a" and the finder shows me 507 items, for "b" 506 items, for "c" 506 items, for "e" 507 items and so on

what's my problem?
i'm on os x 10.3.8

Maybe your system isn't showing System Files? In other words, maybe the System Folders are hidden and therefore not available for search requests. I think there is an option to show some special do-not-touch folders or something.

Just a suggestion.

Of course, it also depends on where you're searching, you have certain locations you can choose from, although when searching "everywhere" I received 505 results for "a".

i've just noticed that this behaviour happens only if i use the search tool on the upper right corner of finder windows

if i use CMD + F command it works correctly
