Secondary Harddrive not recognized

I recently had a disc stuck in my CD-drive, and I went to the apple site to see what I could do. They said basically to restart the mac and hold down the mouse button, but unfortunately, afterwards, my second harddrive stopped showing up. I am led to believe that in removing the stuck disc from it's drive, that I reset some sort of startup issue.

Any ideas? All of my music, and most the rest of my media is stored on that drive, so it's been a very silent morning. :/

Have you tried restarting again?

Perhaps holding down the mouse button somehow ejects all media other than the primary hard drive... I really don't know, but if you haven't restarted since, I think it's worth a try.

Yea, I restarted in hopes that it would restart the recognizing process, but still nothing. IT seems to have just flat out ejected the drive entirely.

Is that an external hard drive, or an internal drive in a tower, such as a Mac Pro...?

I would suggest a shutdown, and then startup - not just a restart. A simple restart does not always reset all hardware.

Yea, I did a full shutdown, and started it up again. But still it won't recognize. It's an internal drive, I have a mac G5 Desktop with the tower that oddly resembles a large cheese grater :<

This problem has been a real kick in the pants as most of my music and videos and important information is on that drive. Perhaps there is a way to remove the drive from the tower and re-insert it in? Details on that would greatly help as I'm in a constant fear of messing up the internals. I figure it would be like restarting the computer, but with the drive. Maybe giving the computer another chance to recognize the drive, with that solution?

Details, info, ideals, and all help is GREATLY appreciated. :D

Open Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder), and select your second hard drive, if visible in the list. Click on the Repair Disk button - different from Repair Disk Permissions.
That might take care of the problem, or you get an error message of some kind - or the drive is not visible in Disk Utility either?
Let us know how that works.

Well, A couple days ago, (still had the problem) I attempted to mount the drive, and it told me to repair it first, so I hit repair, attempted to mount it again, and it stuck me in a loop of telling me to repair it and repair it..

Were you using Disk Utility to do that repair?

If so, then your drive must be failing. You can try some other drive repair app, such as Disk Warrior...
