secure access of one computer from another

I have an iMac and a MacBook. In order to do daytrading, I use parallels and windows on my iMac. I would like to be able to access those programs from the MacBook when I travel.

My concerns are:
1. Using a secure tunnel
2. Having enough speed for my trading transactions
3. Being able to work with the internet on the MacBook while accessing parallels on the iMac

iMac has 2GB memory, MacBook has 4GB

You realize that when you are away to access the iMac this way you will need to leave the iMac running with Parallels running as well? There are pieces of software out there made for this. One I hear of often is GoToMyPc.

If you've got a MobileMe subscription, this reeks of "Back to my Mac" and "Screen Sharing."

Another option is VNC over an SSH tunnel, since Mac OS X can be controlled by a VNC viewer by switching on "Remote Management" in the "Sharing" pane of the System Preferences.

Or else if this is your main intent just use Migration Assistant to migrate your apps and perhaps your user to the macbook.

Thanks so much for responding. No, I wasn't aware Parallels had to be running already nor that it had to be continually running. That is helpful to know. I looked up GoToMyPc. It appears it requires a pc in order to work.

Thanks! I am open to all options.
