Setting up my hotmail account on Mail

Hi,

I want to access my hotmail email's via Mail (the OS X app.). How do I set this up?

I don't know what all this POP3 and other stuff means and what I have to type for the different servers.....

My account details are:

username: johnsmith@hotmail.com
password: password
(not really)

I'll change it to my details on my computer.

I hate Mail, it's so annoying. It's not working.

There are 2 problems:

1) I set up a .Mac account on Mail a few months ago (it was only a trial account) and now I want to delete it. I click the minus button and it says, this account will be removed, but every time I open up Mail again, it's still there! How do I get this account off my computer completely?

2) I downloaded and installed the httpmail, then when I click add New Account, I select httpmail, that bits okay, I enter all my info, click OK, enter the incoming mail server (hotmail.com), I enter my username and my password, I click "Continue", and all that happens is the "Continue" button goes grey. Can someone please help me setup my hotmail account on Mail! Thankyou!
 
In response to your #1: try removing your .Mac information from the .Mac pane of the System Preferences. Just remove the username and password and leave them blank. This may help.
 
Yes or No - do you have a 'paid' Hotmail subscription?
If the latter, then no - you cannot use any e-Mail application to send / receive via your 'free' Hotmail account. You can only access your 'free' Hotmail account via a web browser application.
 
I've been using my free hotmail for 8 years approx. And have collected my email via Outlook and Mail for most of that time.
