"Shared Software"

it's only been a year or so since i discovered one might use this type of software and i must admit i've become addicted and feel i must at least take a look at a myriad of offerings.

my question: when i do a permissions repair, instead of the dozen or so results i am used to, i now get many hundreds. Also, when i quit apps i almost invariably get a "app quit unexpectantly" message. Should i be alarmed?

Are you having a permissions problem? Permissions repair is almost never necessary, and seldom fixes any problem that most users have. It just seems to have become 'Step 1 from the list of things to do when I don't know how to fix this (fill in with choice expletive) Mac." And, of course, won't fix your "application unexpectedly quit" problem.

And to answer your question - No, there's no reason to be 'alarmed' - unless apps are quitting that you actually would like to use, and that you hope will continue to work until you decide to stop working, and not whenever the system decides to quit for you.

what is this 'shared software' that you are using? Do mean 'shareware'? Shareware tends to be updated frequently, so if you are using some, you should check for updates occasionally.
Now would be a good time to do that :D

If you continue to have applications quit, which apps are a real problem for you?
Most people begin troubleshooting by logging in to another user account, to see if the crashing continues on that user. If you only have one user, you can create a new user just for that purpose. Open your System Preferences, then Accounts pane. Create a new account, then log out of your normal user, then log back in with that new user, and try your troublesome software.
Any crashes now?

thank you-Interesting point about permissions repair --if there is no reason to be alarmed then my question is answered , as the apps
are just showing the warning after i have chosen to close them.

by 'shared' i meant '[K]'

Then you are on your own.

It boggles my mind when folks ask "why does my pirated--STOLEN--software act strangely?"

it boggles my mind to spend hundreds of dollars only to find what i have purchased is crap or worse yet lacks the support needed to understand it!

you live your life as you wish and i will do the same. This is a discussion board devoted to the whys and hows of software.

...then you must have overlooked this:

No W@r3z

No asking for serialz, hackz, or warez, linking to them, discussing or anything related, including MP3z, Pr0n and related piracy items.

...

Great! So, instead of purchasing 'crap', you downloaded 'crap' - with no support anyway. But, hey, you got that for free... :D
Having problems with your system now?
You can do an archive & install from your original system installer disks.
Or, (not knowing the quality of the software that you 'found'), you should erase and install from those original disks.
