let me know if you need any more info...i need help fast..if i have this virus

You don't have a virus. There are no viruses for Mac OS X. Only "trojan horses," and none of them are named "sillyautorun."

Sillyautorun is a Windows virus. It cannot and will not affect your Mac in the slightest (unless you're running Windows on your Mac). It is possible for the virus to exist on your computer (although it will be incapable of doing anything), and it is possible for you to pass the virus on to a Windows user via email or a removable drive or something.

Your Windows friends should have up-to-date virus scanning software, though, that will eradicate this virus from their systems should you happen to give it to them via some means.

I take the stance that it is their responsibility to protect their computers -- not yours... much like it's their responsibility to take care of their own cars, not your responsibility. You've got your own computer to worry about.

Please explain in much greater detail the circumstances surrounding this virus. Where did you get it from? What causes you to believe you have it? Whom has told you that you gave them a virus?

first of all i never open any email that i dont know who its from....so i received a email
from someone i knew...it had a attachment to it and i opened it...it was a joke i thought so i sent it back to the person saying why did she send it to me...next thing i know she tells me i gave her a virus... and she checked with a computor person and they said it had to have come from my mac...is this person just making this up?... i wouldnt even know if i had any virus...and thats why i love a mac because we dont hardly get any..thanks for your help...you have helped me in the past...

another question.... should i change my email addy?....or if i dont have the virus it wont
matter?...

Just because an email says that it comes from a specific email address does not mean that it actually came from that email address. More than likely, you received some kind of spam with a virus attachment that appeared to come from your friend, but in actuality, did not come from them. You then sent the email "back" to them (even though it didn't originate from them), unwittingly also sending them the virus.

I can compose an email and make it seem like it's coming from bobama@whitehouse.gov, obinladen@alqaeda.org, jchrist@heaven.net, or any email address I choose. You can, too. Typically, people don't do this, but it's very simple to do. That's likely what happened -- the originator of the email you received modified the email so that it appeared to come from your friend.

It is a virus, and you did send it to them, but they should have up-to-date virus protection that prevented the virus from doing any harm. The virus didn't originate from your computer -- it is impossible for a virus to spontaneously come into existence on a computer -- they have to come from somewhere, and that somewhere was the "joke" email that was from your friend but really wasn't from your friend.

No need to change your email address... next time you receive something that is questionable from an email address you're familiar with, do not forward the email back to that person... instead, compose a new, blank email message to them asking whether they sent it to you or not. When you create a new email message on your Mac, it is impossible for that new email message to contain a virus. By forwarding the original email back to them, though, you passed on the attachment (the virus) to them as well.

Clear as mud? ;)
