Slow iDisk / .Mac

I have searched for earlier discussions on iDisk and found only one brief mention of how slow it is to upload files.

Does anyone know why this is so?

I also find that when retrieving mail from my .Mac account, I can sometimes wait up to 3 minutes before my mail downloads. This does happen with other non .mac accounts.

I use iDisk quite a bit and have no problems usually. Once in awhile (rarely) it's slow.

But a lot of people complain about this problem;

I suppose we expect everything to be fast these days.

I don't see Apple doing much about the problem so perhaps I could get on with some other jobs whilst I am waiting to upload files to my .mac account (such as oil-painting a masterpiece, checking for fleas on my cat or darning a few socks).

It is a shame that though that Apple can't speed things up, especially if it is trying to persuade PCs users to defect.
