How many programs/apps are running when it gets slow? It is easy to check this by going to the Apple Menu and select Force Quit. 10.9 has what I would call a bug but this happens on your iOS devices as well…..you may not see the ‘on’ indicator light under an app’s icon in the dock, but it is still running in the background. Example: open a jpg or pdf and Preview will launch. Close the pdf or jpeg window and Preview’s icon in the dock will disappear, but it will still be running and show up in the Force Quit window. I use ForceQuit only because it is easy to get to.

There are several suggestions on this Apple page: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521

Do you have OnyX or DiskWarrior? Boot up with that and have it run through all the tests and repair the drive. I use Disk Warrior.

OR - What is unique is that the latest OS X’s have Recovery HD built in. This is where you can run Disk Utility to repair the drive. Restart the computer and immediately hold down the command and R keys.
Instructions are here —->http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

A few things stand out. First is the possibility of a bad drive. The Scannerz guys have info on using stuff like Activity Monitor and bad hard drive info in the how to section of their site. The link to get you in is http://scsc-online.com and the link for Scannerz is http://scsc-online.com/Scannerz.html, if you think you need hardware tests done.

HOWEVER...before assuming it's the drive or even a system problem the two things that stick out in my mind are the lines in your system report "AntiVirus" and "MacKeeper Helper." I don't use MacKeeper by I'm aware of it's reputation and will leave it for others to comment on. As for AntiVirus software, it can often delay or slow down a system because it's more or less "interrogating" everything that goes on. I've seen some people actually think their drives were failing because of it. If I were you I would look into MacKeeper and see what possible problems it may be causing to your system, and you might want to try disabling the AntiVirus software to see if things speed up. From your snapshot above, the reported memory used by them are:

238 MB AntiVirus
164 MB MacKeeper Helper

As an FYI, both Disk Utility and Disk Warrior are for repairing problems with the file system index and with Disk Warrior it can help you recover "confused" drives, but they will do nothing with bad sectors.

Hope this helps.

tvmobilisvcd is the culprit. Go to their site and see if they have updated the app. There are a lot of complaints there that talk about 50% CPU use and 30% RAM use even when not active.

The only thing that does something for bad sectors is to reformat the drive - that is: back it up, erase, reformat.

There is a concern about MacKeeper among Mac users. The majority say not to install it, no mater what version OS X you are running. It is no longer listed in the App Store. There are instructions on how to uninstall here ---how-to-uninstall-mackeeper
