So, I'm Switching ISPs...

I'm wondering what's involved when moving from one DSL ISP to another DSL provider. My home network is currently set up like so:

iMac (upstairs) (((((((((((((((( Wireless router----->Modem----->Wall

Windows PC---------------------------------^

((((((( indicates a wireless connection, while ----------> is a wired connection.

-----------------
Would it just involve me typing the new username and password on the windows and mac computers? Or would there be discs to install and IPs to configure?

The only things that need to change are the DSL modem (and not even that -- most times you can use one DSL modem with many different providers), and the router -- specifically, you need to change your PPPoE username and password on the router.

The computers shouldn't need to have any changes at all.

Just go into the wireless router that is connected to the DSL modem and change the setting for the new ISP. Can't you get into the router?

I can get into the router, I'm just wondering what I should be prepared for when I switch ISPs tomorrow. I'll have to ask Primus (the new ISP) if I can keep using my old Bell modem though. The PPPoE update is something I'd expect.

If you can use your old modem, then it should be as simple as changing over the PPPoE settings to the new ISP's PPPoE settings. Everything else should work as-is.

If you have to use a new modem, then it's still simple -- replace the old modem with the new modem, then change the PPPoE settings on your router. Everything else should still work as-is.
