How do you check to make sure you have no viruses on your mac? I have a G4 ibook with the Tiger/jaguar operating system.

I know how to start the machine in safe mode. After that, can you lead me to directions that would show me how to search for and get rid of any viruses?

The sober X virus is prolific in our workplace as of this past week. I"ve received numerous emails and clicked on the first one's attachment, as it came from a fellow employee. Or at least so I thought.
Thanks for any assistance.

There are no visures that can affect a Mac OS X system.
You can use ClamX, Virex, Nortons Anti Virus to check to see if ti's on your machine, but the only way if would cause a problem, if you passed it in an email to a PC as an attachment.

My macs operating system is not having any problems. Sober X sends multiple emails out. Since I clicked on that zip file, I need to make sure that the virus isn't being sent out by my computer. If it is there, I want to eliminate it. How can I check to see if it is there and how can I eliminate it if it is there?
Thank you in advance.

I thought Virex wasn't being updated anymore and had been removed from the handful of (pretty useless things) that you get with a .Mac membership...?
Also, Norton is a mess (or it was for me) and caused problems.
ClamXav isn't bad.

Intego's Virusbarrier will prevent virii from being passed from your machine to friends and family running Windows. It ain't cheap and I wonder what sort of CPU usage it relies on (I don't have it installed anymore).

Not keen on intego myself, after that FUD fake virus incident i don't trust them anymore, and i certainly don't want to give them my money.

Norton has been known to really bugger up a macos x system too, so don't touch it.

I'll agree that NAV (Norton AntiVirus) version 9 had some serious bugs initially, but I can also say that version 10 is much much better and rock solid on our customer's Tiger and Panther systems. While ClamAV is nice, it doesn't remove viruses, just detects them. Intego is unproven, while NAV remains the Enterprise standard.
