Someone with the LEAST bit of experience with X, HELP ME!

OK, here is how it goes, I just got a new iMac g4 (jippy!), 2nd hand. It'd been a show-model in a store so it's practicly as good as new. But the thing is, they did change the name of the system administratot to the name of the store, and i want the full name to be "System Administrator" and the short name "root". But

1. When I change it to system administrator, it says the name is already taken, but in the list of users, only this one is shown. (?)
2. I can't change the short name. period.
 
There are a couple things that you can do. All you need to do create your own administrator account that you want to use and delete the old user that they were using.

If you truly want to use root, although I would recommend not logging in using this account daily, all you have to do is enable it.

You can do this through netinfo manager located in your utilities folder.
You need to start netinfo and click on the security tab. under the tab you'll find "authenticate." after you are authenticated you will find that the "enable root user" under the same menu will be able to be selected. Selecting this will bring up a box asking you to type in the new password for root.
 
Try to be creative in naming users. ROOT is certainly a reserved name (used for logging in as root user) Any store where I have worked would not sell a system that is used as a demonstrator without formatting and restoring all software first, If you still show the store's name. then what else is wrong with system software.

Logging in as ROOT gives you access to virtually everything, which makes it easy to trash the system. Just create a new account, make it an administrator, and delete the other account entirely.
