I burned an avi move to dvd in iDVD which starts out great but about 10 minutes into it the sound no longer works, what did I do wrong!??

Without knowing exactly what you did, it's impossible to tell what you did wrong!
What version of Mac OS X are you using, and on what kind of computer, and what version of iDVD are you using?
What kind of AVI file was it? Muxed? Demuxed? What codecs were used for audio and video?
When you imported the AVI into iDVD, does it play correctly -- even after 10 minutes? Sound and all?
What exact steps did you take, from the time you had the AVI file, all the way through the importing and burning of the DVD in iDVD?
