Spotlight hangs when re-indexing hard drive

Hi,

I needed to re-index my hard drive, and it gets to a certain point and then the indexing status bar gets stuck at a point that says "About 2 hours remaining"
and the status bar hasn't moved for about 6 hours.

Does anyone have any advice for me ?

I don't see any activity in the Activity Monitor for "Spotlight" or "Finder" in fact there is no "Spotlight" listed in the Activity Monitor.

Look for "mdimport" and other similarly-named "md*" names -- those are the processes that make up Spotlight.

Sometimes indexing can take 10 hours or more -- I would simply leave it indexing overnight (~12 hours) and see if it progresses more. The "time remaining" estimate can be unreliable sometimes.
