SSHD refuses incoming logins

I haven't tried logging in from somewhere else for quite a while and, wouldn't you know, it doesn't work now. Every attempt provokes a line like the following in the system log:
Code:
Sep 10 05:45:29 XXXXXX sandboxd[35039]: sshd(35037) deny mach-per-user-lookup
Does anyone know what's going on?

Have you modified the config file for the ssh daemon? Could you have, perhaps, limited access to the local machine and/or certain IP addresses for certain users?

I found the culprit. In System Preferences / Sharing / Remote Login, the access rights were checked for Administrator only. After I changed to Everyone, to worked like it used to.

I think it got this way after an archive-reinstall some time ago.

Excellent post Whitehill. I've been chasing this / getting around it for some time.

I'm sure the "from" system type doesn't matter - but thought it might be a useful trail for others.

It seems obvious once the answer is known - I didn't think to check:
System Preferences / Sharing / Remote Login
