startup disk message

i keep getting a message on my laptop telling me that my startup disk is almost full and that i need to delete some files. what files do i need to delete? i'm running 10.3.9 and there is about 30 gigs of free space on my hard drive and when i check start up disk in system prefs the start up disk is folder osx 10.3.9. on my hardrive.
any help will be much appreciated

First thing is to reboot. Second thing is to Repair Permissions (with Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility). Third is to read this Apple document of logs and temporary items and follow it's instructions.

Can easily happen with laptops, most spend they're life thru the day and as a consequence never get chance to run cron scripts. If that dont work reset the parameter ram (apple+opt+p+r on startup).

If that works think about maybe setting the cron scripts to run on a more sociable time scale.
