startup disk message

i keep getting a message on my laptop telling me that my startup disk is almost full and that i need to delete some files. what files do i need to delete? i'm running 10.3.9 and there is about 30 gigs of free space on my hard drive and when i check start up disk in system prefs the start up disk is folder osx 10.3.9. on my hardrive.
any help will be much appreciated

Satcomers on to a good thing, try cocktail for panther

Can easily happen with laptops, most spend they're life thru the day and as a consequence never get chance to run cron scripts. If that dont work reset the parameter ram (apple+opt+p+r on startup).

If that works think about maybe setting the cron scripts to run on a more sociable time scale.
