Startup Problem

I built a 10.1.4 box and installed the Apple Remote Desktop client. Then I rebooted and ran Software Update to upgrade ARD to 1.1. I turned on all the options I wanted and set the client to start at boot time. However, the daemon does not actually come up at boot.

The startup folder, with a working script and plist, is in the Startup Items folder. /etc/hostconfig has an ARDAGENT=-YES- entry. Manually running the script sources the environment properly and starts the daemon. All my other startup items appear to work properly.

I asked my local Apple System Engineer but all he could suggest was to remove the receipt and reinstall, which of course I had already done. Any ideas? I'm kind of on a deadline here.

Thanks in advance.

1.) Look what the console has to say about it. Does it *try* to run the script and fail or does it ignore it?

2.) If you let the user login automatically, you can use an AppleScript to execute the startup script as a login item. If that is not a bearable solution to your task, look at 1.)

According to the syslog, it never tries to start the agent. The log properly records my successful attempt to start the daemon from the script.

Scripting around the failure is not acceptable, since this is for an enterprise wide disk image. The init package has to work in and of itself so desktop support people can turn it off from the preference pane. And anyway, the init package has to work or I won't endorse it for distribution.
