Hello there...

this is all new to me so please bare with me!

I recently had to connect to a FTP server with name and password authenticication, however this was a one off, now every time i turn my iMac G5 on i get a box FTP FILE SYSTEM AUTHENTICATION which is asking me to enter name and password to connect to the FTP server....

Does anyone know how I can stop this from trying to auto connect every time i turn on my Mac? I dont need to use the server again!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried reconnecting, and then disconnecting from the server by dragging the desktop icon connection to the FTP server to the Trash?

The other place to look in the User Accounts pane in System Preferences. Locate your account and check what's set to startup when you login in the section for login items. If the connection is listed there, highlight it and delete it.

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately i cannote even reconnect and then eject the server as you suggested because 'the server you are trying to connect to is no longer available'....

I looked at the the login items and there is nothing in their either. thanks for gettnig back to me, any other ideas?

What tool did you use to connect to the server? The Finder or some other program?

Did you create an alias of some file on the server and leave it on your desktop or somewhere else? It could be some program you're using expects to see or use the remote file.

If it's simply the Finder trying to reopen a previously open window, you might want to try to trash the Finder's preferences file and relogin.

Stop creating new THREADS about this problem, pleeeeeeeessseeee! Thanks. One thread about one problem is more than enough. People answer the thread with solutions, you try them and we'll figure out the problem over time. (Or not.) But creating another thread won't help. It'll just make people angry. ;)

(I've merged your three threads about this.)

I'm pretty sure that i used the finder to connect, but i dont think i created an alias of the file on the desktop or anything like that.... thanks for your reply..

So you checked under your User account (System Preferences->Accounts->Your Account ....Login items and it not there? Then do these steps:

1. Delete Finder's Preferences (/YourHardDrive/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist).

2. Go to the desktop and in the finder go to "Connect to Server". When the box pops up select the top left clock button (in the pop-up Connect to Server box) and clear the recent connects memory list. Also clear the Favorite Servers too.

See if this helps. Good Luck.

I used safari to get to the server not the finder.... does this make any difference are there some sfari preferences that i should trash? Thanks

Satcomer i really thought that would work but id didn't!, thanks for your input, i accesssed the server though putting the address into Safari, does that help?

I had a network volume that wanted to mount every time I logged in and couldn't get rid of it. Sounded a lot like the OP's problem, and like the OP there was no network location in my Login Items. Deleting com.apple.finder.plist and logging out/in worked for me. Thanks for the advice.
