subwoofer speaker system connection

I have a logitech 5.1 surround sound with subwoofer with 5 speakers connected to my macbook os x 10.5.4 leopard and only 2 speakers give sound. Was told to go to the control panel of my windows operating system and go to surround settings and make sure that the speaker set up is set to 5.1 surround. By default it is set to 2 speaker output. How do I find its equivalent in the mac os x i.e the control panel that will permit me to set my speaker set up to 5.1 surround? Please please help. Thank you.

If you're using the headphone port to connect your speaker system, then 2 channel audio is all you're going to get.

To get 5.1 audio out of your computer, you'll need to use the optical audio port or some other means of connecting the speakers -- I can't say which you should use, though, since you failed to specify what kind of Macintosh you're using.
