There has been a network or file

So I'm running a small Mac network at a school. Users will occasionally get this error when trying to save a file opened on the server back to the server.

Has anyone seen something similar to this? I have not been able to find any errors I would consider pertinent in the server or client logs. I disable Airport on the desktop machines to eliminate possible authentication conflicts.

The server is on the WAN of a Windows domain, but is running standalone for this location. It runs DHCP, AFP, Windows and Print services.

Server Tiger 10.4.10 in standalone mode (G4 400mhz 2gb)

clients some 10.4, 10.5 and one 10.6

This one has me stumped, hoping for a clue at least

Thanks,
Jim

Could you be bumping up against a CAL ("Client Access License") limit issue with the Windows server? How many CALs does the server support, and how many machines are trying to connect to it simultaneously?

Edit: If I read your post right, you're running a Mac OS X Server -- not a Windows server, correct? If so, disregard the above. Is this the 10-client license of Mac OS X Server or the Unlimited Client license?

Could there possibly be physical damage to the network somewhere? A flaky switch or over-crimped ethernet cable? Does this happen to all users? Randomly? Random computers? A specific set of computers?
