Hi,

I've got Internet security 3.0 (Anti-virus; Firewall; ... etc -Symantec). With Mac OS X 10.3 this programm gone really fine.
Now I've just installed Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

After restart, a message tell me that "Norton Firewall" and "Norton Anti virus" don't work. What can I do ?

On Symantec's HP I cannot find anything on this subject.
:-(

Thanx for help;

You'll have to wait for Symantec to release a newer version Tiger compatible. This version isn't.

At the risk of going over old ground, there seems to a consensus of opinion amongst the Mac community that Norton products are generally not a good thing to have on a Mac. One can read of numerous problems relating to screwed up permissions and kernal panic attacks. I used to use System works and it seriously damaged my system, resulting in an expensive repair bill.

Hope all is well in Luxemburg!

Why do you think you need this product? People who don't use it have no more viruses, spyware, and other nastiness than you do. Enable your security tools that are built into MacOS X. Disable and uninstall that Norton mess. If you really need more than is built into MacOS X, then you need a hardware firewall.

I have had a lot of experience with "symantec/norton/digital river" products mostly on PCs. I will simply agree with the politely understated comment regarding Norton/Symantec products being perhaps... Not what they want you to believe. Caveat Emptor... McAfee also (Virex :( isnt up to date with Tiger.
Also there was an excellent piece of advice - enable the security tools that come *free* with your OS and if you really are paranoid or are a sysop with an appreciation for these amazing computers *OS X is AMAZING imho - 10 years of Unix (wait - 92 to 2005 is more than 10 Im OLD) VMS/VAX, Redhat, SunOS for years, etc. and I just got this pbook g4 and I am in HEAVEN! Get a manual from O'reilly if you are interested in a sort of walk through (OS X missing manual was okay - wish it had been more detailed and technical) and I think you will decide Symantec is just a waste of cash and with what you get with OS X you can do just as much with more elegance.
Best,
Gileas

I think so, too. Besides, there are no viruses yet anyway for OS X, so it's really double the waste of cash... If anybody still thinks you need it, be my guest... it's not necessary, really. :)

I just wouldn't let a widget install unless i selected it from a trusted site, such as macupdate.com or somewhere simular
