Transferring Music files on external HD

OK, here's what I want to accomplish. I have a friend that wants his entire CD collection to be put onto an external HD. He then wants all the music files brought into iTunes on his iMac, but wants to keep all the actual files on the same external HD.

I have a lot of time on my hands right now, so I offered to get all his music from his CD's onto his external HD. I don't have access to his computer.

I can't drag and drop the CD disc image from my desktop to the HD, as only a shortcut symbol shows up inside the HD. I can click open the CD, then drag all the song files onto the HD. Then, as a test, I dragged one of the newly copied song files from his external HD into iTunes on my computer. It transferred the song into my Library, but only the the song title, no other metadata (Artist, Album, etc.)

So how do I get his CD's onto his external hard drive (including metadata,) then take the drive over to his house and add all those files into HIS iTunes Library, which we would specify be located on his external drive (I know how to do that part.)

Hi, I got this figured out. I used the hold option key down while starting iTunes. It then gives a choice to create a new library. I just set the new library to reside on my friends external HD. Whenever I want to work on loading CD"s into HIS library, I hold option, start iTunes, choose his library on the external HD and go. Took the HD over to his house to test it out, connected HD to his iMac, selected his Library as described above, and there it was on his copy of iTunes, with the Library located on his external HD. Long winded, but I got it done. Hope this helps someone trying to do the same thing.
