Troll bait: Anyone seen the new G5 petition?

My God. Apple users will probably start petitioning for free orange juice with PowerBook purchases soon, or complain that the FedEx man didn't bow five times to the North and spin around, smiling, when he delivered the package.

Apple has some delays. Was it really a surprise? Apple even warned us beforehand, and spoke of delays and troubles with IBM's new 90nm process.

Please don't help these people turn petitions into petition abuse, much like lawsuit abuse. Who wants to sign my petition against petitions?

Internet petitions are a bit of a joke, and for these people to start a petition about having to wait two months for a particular model of G5 PowerMac when the ordering site specifically said that there would be significant delays is NOT going to achieve anything. Its not going to make the assembly process any quicker. The ships won't go faster and the assembly process won't be sped up because a few dozen people sign a petition.

I'm backing up that petition against petitions by not signing it! It looks like it's doing well, since at the moment well over 5 billion people have not signed it.

Add me to the list of those who will not sign the petition against petition.

Yes! We'll all not sign our own petition against petitions!

BTW, I love that. Brilliant statistics.

its really not just the G5. its about 2/3 of all products Apple announces. iPods, minis, displays, powerbooks, etc.

if you've ever ordered something from the AppleStore right after its announced only to have to wait months and have your shipping date change half a dozen times before receiving it does get rather frustrating.

while the petition is quite silly, its not exactly baseless.

Frustrating, yes: but nothing so severe it requires some kind of intervention or petition. What are they petitioning for? An apology? Only egomaniacs and people with fat heads petition for an apology. It's just silly and ridiculous.

Apple makes it a habit of announcing their "next big thing" before it's ready to ship, and they make this quite clear. The Apple Store does a good job of estimating a product's ship date -- in this case, IBM overestimated their yield of G5 chips, and Apple had to push back the order date -- whatcha gonna do? Get all mad and annoyed over it? Is that really something so important it requires a negative emotional reaction such as anger or frustration to the point of starting a silly petition?

The petition is hardly baseless, sure... but there are better ways to vent frustration and anger. It's frivolous and a knee-jerk reaction to someone's dismay at not getting their G5 when they wanted it. Kind of like all those kids in the 1980's who didn't get their Cabbage Patch Kid doll at Christmas because all the stores sold out -- I'll bet they threw an equally ridiculous tantrum over it.

i dont think its so much that Apple announces products then doesnt release them for several months, i think its the fact that Apple is notorious for revising shipping dates on pre-ordered products. they are honestly really bad about this.

ive only ordered a few things through the online AppleStore but when your shipping date states July 30 and then you check on July 30 to get shipping details only to find it says August 18. ok, bummer. so you check on August 18 to get shipping details only to find it says on or before September 1. it gets frustrating and old after awhile.

like i said, Apple is notorious for this. perhaps others are as well but i dont think its so much about not getting their G5 today or whatever but getting it pushed back to what may seem like an infinite duration.

im not defending what they did, i believe though all online petitions are BS. i can see however where said person may have been pushed to the breaking point into creating such an asinine petition.

IBM Finds Case Of Beer. G5 Further Constrained.

Disappointed Mac users learned today that availability of G5 chips has been further constrained after IBM found a case of beer.

"It was out back on the loading dock," an already inebriated IBM slurred. "Didn't have nobody's name on it..."

This development is expected to delay both September's introduction of the G5 iMac as well as any chances of seeing 3 GHz Power Macs any time soon.

Asked when the company might have a chance to get back to making more processors, the company said "Shut up! Man, why you always got to be such a downer? Can't you see I'm partyin'?

"What happened to you, man? What... what... what...

"Uh... what... what time is it?" IBM asked through half-closed eyelids.

According to sources in Fishkill, New York, the site of IBM's G5 processor plant, the company discovered a case of Genesee Cream Ale on the loading dock around 11 PM this morning and was about two-thirds of the way through it by the end of lunch.

"You know... you know..." IBM said, waving a green can in the air. "I've got half a mind to tell that Steve Jobs to go stick it! Who does he think he is, anyway?!"

IBM said nothing for a few moments and idly sipped out of the can.

"You know who's a great guy?" the company suddenly asked. "Steve Jobs! He's a good friend of mine, you know that?"

Sources were uncertain how long the company would stay all liquored up.

;)

I shall launch a petition for my old 7200 to support Tiger !!!

Frankly petitions are a great feature of democracy. By using it for nothing, one voids its force.

yeah, where's my orange juice and fedex dance????? Everyone grab your pitchforks!! Rally!! Rally!!
?????

If you want something good, sometimes you have to wait for it...
Anyone else besides me feel the "Blizzard Panic" when they push back a release date for their games?? Do any of those people complain when they finally do get their game?? NO, because they put out quality games, with minimal flaws. Rushing to market with an unproven product leads to disasters. Think Windows. Think asbestos. Think Lawn Darts (Game=throw metal spikes at friends feet???? WTF???)

Just be thankful you people can afford G5's!!! Ungrateful!!!

Didn't feel that a new thread should be wasted on yet another petition, so I'll just amend this one to the end of this last one... more for ya:

http://www.petitiononline.com/diskutil/petition.html

Apparently there's a hangup with diskutil in single-user mode. Wah wah wah. Apple acknowledged it (I don't see how since multiple searches of Apple's knowledge base didn't turn up a DAMN thing about single user and diskutil causing hangups) apparently, so we can all see how a petition was necessary.

These idiots are turning petitions into polls of opinion, and we all know how much weight a poll carries.

No, your thinking of those kids who didn't get their G.I. Joe aircraft carrier, lego monorail, Transformers Omega Supreme, and Garbage Pail Kids.

At least get the complaining right sir.

Petitions serve their purpose whether they have a point or not. Maybe if they changed the title to "Against Apple shipping policies" and called for a revision of how long people can wait before they can place their orders when the product is announced.
