Trying to recover data that is there!

Hi!

Although I've been a Mac user for 24 years, this morning I did something stupid... I changed the name of a couple of folders including a Library folder (I think)!!!

To make a long story short, now, even though I renamed the folders to their original denomination, my applications all start as if I had never used them. They, like iCal, Mail etc., do not have access to the data related to them.

I know the data is still there, (I can find some with spotlight and nothing was erased), but it is not accessible through the respective apps.

Can someone help me, please?

Thank you!

Hi again, Satcomer!

Unfortunately, the references you sent me, although being really close to solving my problem do not seem to make it, finally.

The first one refers to a possible Library folder inside the Library folder inside the Home>Library. But I do not have a double set of Library folders. So it does not apply.

The second refers to a changed name but the 3 folders whose names were changed have been reverted to their original name... so it does not apply either.

Finally the last suggestion had to do with the SystemFolderLocalizations.strings. I went there and everything seems normal.

The worse part is that I can see the data I'm looking for... where it is supposed to be. For example, in Home>Library>caches>Metadata>iCal, I can see hundreds of icalevents... in fact, if I click on either of them the Get Info window reveals its title and its due date.

I can see the problem is not so big in itself... it's just that the application does not get to the data.

So if you have other suggestions, Satcomer, please feel free to intervene. I am still looking. Otherwise, let me thank you for your help. The links you offered have helped me understand the problem a little better.

Thanks again, Satcomer.
