Tunnelblick and Linksys N Ultra Range Plus

Can anyone tell me if there is an issue with the Linksys N Ultra Range Plus wireless router that would prevent tunnelblick from working? We have a couple of these routers at the office and after tunnelblick connects, I cant connect to anything on the network. But, when I go home I can connect to tunnelblick and reach everything I need in the network.

Any ideas??? Please help.

Tunnelblick is a VPN!!! don't you understand that when you are using a VPN you are tunneling through to a different local network as if you are on that network. That means you will NOT be able to access local server., printer etc. because while the VPN is using another network, theta other network can't see your local network. That is HOW a VPN is supposed to work!

This is inaccurate.

I use a VPN connection to a remote site every day, and the way I have it configured, I can access both remote and local resources simultaneously. The VPN "knows" which traffic to route across the VPN, and which traffic is local traffic.

While it may be true that the remote network can't "see" my local network, that does not mean that I cannot use remote resources and local resources at the same time. For example, I can VPN into my work's VPN and mount a shared drive. I can then open a PDF file located on that remote, mounted drive in Preview.app and print it to my local printer, connected via wireless to my local network. All the while I can be surfing the internet using Safari and my local internet connection (I can tell because I have an 18mb connection at home and a 1.544mb connection at work -- if all traffic were going over the VPN, I wouldn't be seeing download speeds in excess of 1000kb per second with Safari).

There are settings in some VPNs (including the built-in VPN in Mac OS X) that will force all traffic to be sent across the VPN tunnel, but this is a configurable option and is dependent upon what you need the VPN tunnel to do.

Thanks for the reply ElDiabloConCaca. I think I stated the issue wrong. I guess people still get a kick out of flaming others on these boards.. The issue is this. VPN doesnt work on the Linksys wireless router but it works on others. Is there a fix for this or is there some setting that needs to be changed that I am unawrare of?

I wouldn't call it a flame -- Satcomer is a good member here, and I think the reply stemmed from simply a lack of understanding about VPNs.

I have heard about problems with LinkSys routers and VPN connections, for example:

http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=112185

I think the problem stems from the lack of support for the GRE protocol on certain models of LinkSys routers. If the LinkSys router doesn't support pass-through of VPN traffic, there's not much you can do about it other than replace it with a different router.

Another option would be to install a Linux-based firmware, if your LinkSys router is supported. You may want to investigate such projects as:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/
http://openwrt.org/

These "replacement firmwares" typically give you more advanced configuration options than the standard firmwares that ship with LinkSys routers, and allow you to do things with the routers that would normally not be available with the stock firmwares.
