Turning off the standby light

When I close my powerbook (and it goes to sleep), the little white light on the "open" button turns on. Is it possible to turn it off and still have the computer be asleep? If so, how?

Thanks,
Jeremy

As far as software-based solutions, no, there is not a way to disable the light.

Some people have tried applying a "hibernation" hack to their PowerBooks, which is essentially the same as on Windows XP machines -- the computer is fully powered off, but the contents of RAM are saved, and upon turning the computer back on, it will be in the same state as when you hibernated it. For all intents and purposes, the machine will be off and the light will not glow, but it is similar to simply sleeping the unit -- only it takes more time to "wake" from this hibernation than it does waking from a normal sleep:

As always, I don't recommend using hacks on a computer, so it's a "use at your own risk and we really don't wanna hear about it when it fries your computer because we told you so" kinda thing. ;)
